How to add host initiator in Netapp Storage to map Luns
These Initiator groups are protocol-specific which are FC and iSCSI. FC connections: we can create an FC igroup using all WWPNs of the host. The mostly used for the Host servers like Linux, AIX, UNIX etc. In this Article we are going to see How to add host initiator in Netapp Storage to map Luns.
iSCSI connections : we can create an iSCSI igroup using the iSCSI node name of the host. The mostly used for the Host servers like Linux, AIX, UNIX, Windows etc.
If the host systems using both FC and iSCSI connections to the same LUN, we have to create two igroup:
- One for FC and one for iSCSI.
- Then map the LUN to both igroup. How to add host initiator in Netapp Storage to map Luns
There are several ways to create and manage initiator groups and LUNs on Netapp storage system. These processes be different, depending on your existing configuration.
Considerations for creating an initiator group.
The below following points are the general considerations for creating an initiator group:
• We can create an initiator group in Netapp storage before or after creation of a LUN. And we can add initiators or remove initiators from an existing initiator group at any time.
• The most precaution we have to take that all initiators in the same initiator group need to run the same operating system (OS).
• An initiator can be appropriate to multiple initiator groups, provided that these requirements are met:
The following table lists the limits related to initiator group and initiators.
- Initiator Groups 4096
- Initiators per initiator group 256
- LUN maps per initiator group 250
- LUN maps per initiator 250
- Initiator Group naming contents
The below following list describes the naming conventions for creating an initiator groups:
An initiator group name consists of 1 to 96 characters
Legal characters are:
- A through Z and a through z (case-sensitive)
- 0 to 9
- hyphen (-)
- underscore (_)
- braces ({})
- period (.)
- Spaces are not allowed.
How to add host initiator in Netapp Storage to map Luns
- Goto Filer -> Expand LUNs -> Expand Initiator Groups -> Click on Add
2. In Add Initiator group is as shown below.
3. Before adding Host into Host initiator group we have to remove all WWN Nos in existing initiator box. And we have to keep only the required WWN number which is belongs to Host. It is as shown below
4. Click on Add
5. Check in Initiator Group whether the host name is added or not.
Conclusion:
Initiator Group are used to map the Luns to the Host with the help of FC / iSCSI WWN numbers.
